ITT Bornemann Twin-Screw Pump interior meets ATEX 137 Directive

    7/23/2015

FRANKFURTJuly 23, 2015—The ITT Bornemann Twin-Screw Pump meets Zone 1 Category 2 requirements of the ATEX 137 Directive 99/92/EC for countries that must act under European legislation.

This ATEX 137 directive regulates how certain areas and zones are defined and classified to improve the safety and protection of workers potentially at reduce risk from “explosive atmospheres”. Within these classified areas, companies must use certified machinery and electrical devices and define areas where an explosive atmosphere could occur. Zone defines the type of explosive risk (gas-vapor-mist or dust) and Category defines the equipment required to meet the directive.

Bornemann Twin-Screw Pumps can handle virtually any fluid, including flammable fluid, regardless of viscosity, homogeneity, lubricity or abrasiveness. These are self-priming positive displacement pumps with external timing gears and bearings. Manufactured in more than 80 sizes, their design provides excellent suction performance and eliminates all metal-to-metal contact within the pump.

A recent change to the pump interior means these pumps can now be installed in any application where Zone 1 Category 2 is mandated without division between zones inside and outside the pump. Highly sophisticated process measurement control equipment is no longer necessary for dry running protection or nitrogen reciprocation. Even under the most extreme environments will maintain best suction capabilities, transferring fluids of varying viscosities or flow, safely and effectively.

“We are thrilled to be able to further our reach within the manufacturing community,” said Mike Moore, global product director for Twin Screw Pumps for ITT’s Industrial Process business. “Safety, efficiency, reliability and a high level of availability are the most important features that distinguish Bornemann pumps and systems.”
