Principle

The Bornemann progressive cavity pumps consists of only one basic moving part - a driven metal (inelastic) rotor rotating within an elastomer lined (elastic) stator. As the rotor turns, chambers are formed between the rotor and stator. These chambers progress axially from the suction to discharge end, moving the fluid. By increasing the pitch of the rotor and stator, additional chambers, or stages, are formed.

As the number of stages increases, the pressure capability of the pump increases proportionately. This design permits pumping in either direction and provides the high suction lift capability and smooth, pulsation-free delivery for which Bornemann pumps are known. Available in numerous rotor/stator material combinations, their ability to handle fluids gently and with extremely low shearing makes the progressive cavity pump ideally suited for metering and dosing services.
